Structural and Thermochronological Analysis of the Central Virginia Piedmont: A Time and Depth Reconstruction from Collision to Rifting

Hometown: Lutherville, Maryland

Department: Geology

Advisor: Christopher Bailey

My honors thesis will focus on understanding the history of deformation and metamorphism in the Goochland Terrane. I hope to determine the relationships between this terrane, rift basins near its high strain zones, and larger tectonic events throughout geologic time. This type of detailed age dating has not been done before in the Goochland Terrane, and it could help determine if the rift basins were formed from Atlantic rifting or gravitational collapse.
