Heart Rate Variability Response to Acute Hypoxia Exposure as a Predictor of Endurance Performance

Hometown: Buckingham, Pennsylvania

Department: Kinesiology & Health Sciences

Advisor: Brennan Harris

My honors thesis will explore the use of heart rate variability as a predictor of endurance performance during acute hypoxia exposure. With the normobaric hypoxia chamber located in the Jack Borgenicht Research Facility, I will be able to simulate the physiological response to altitude by manipulating the oxygen content of the chamber atmosphere. By understanding the mechanisms that influence performance, this data could help coaches and athletes better prepare for competitions at altitude.
