Meiotic Defects of a C. elegans Mutant

Description: Meiosis, the form of cell division that makes eggs and sperm, relies on precision. Mistakes in meiosis can have catastrophic consequences, such as infertility or birth defects. In the small roundworm, C. elegans, the SPE-6 kinase seems to affect many aspects of sperm production. My Honors Thesis will investigate meiotic defects in mutant worms lacking SPE-6 in order to determine the role of SPE-6 in C. elegans sperm production, and to learn more about how meiosis is controlled and regulated.
