My Honors Thesis will quantify the physical conditions and deformation kinematics of eclogite-facies shear zones in the Lofoten Islands, Norway. Eclogites are high-pressure, high-temperature metamorphic rocks that can form at depths of up to fifty kilometers beneath the surface of the Earth in fault zones, called shear zones. Understanding their formation can help us understand the processes that occur in the interior of the Earth that lead to the formation and destruction of tectonic plates.
