Exploring the Evolutionary and Molecular Dynamics of Mixed Biofilms to Disrupt their Stability

Biofilms are cooperative communities of microorganisms that are often difficult to eradicate in medical settings and can be a nuisance to humans. One example is a community of yeast that may lead to a yeast infection. In this honors thesis, I will develop a computer model to simulate if an engineered "trojan horse" yeast strain (it secretes a toxin) can disrupt a cooperative yeast community, thus terminating the yeast infection. This method can be a medical intervention if successful.
