Zhao Erfeng in Tibet

By Yukuan Hao

Hometown: Beijing, China

Department: Religious Studies

Project Description:

My honors thesis will examine Qing general Zhao Erfeng's military campaign in Tibet in 1910. Zhao's campaign as a historical event spurred nationalism for both the Chinese and the Tibetans, yet few studies have been produced on it. I am particularly inspired by the New Qing History (NQH) movement, which utilizes non-Chinese sources to investigate the Qing Empire from an Inner-Asia perspective.
