Unifying Hannah Arendt's Theory of Judgment

Hometown: Vienna, Virginia

Department: Philosophy

Advisor Aaron Griffith

My thesis will explore Hannah Arendt's theory of judgment. Unfortunately, due to her death it remains unfinished, as several important ambiguities and tensions are still unresolved. Her project arose out of a desire to explain the major sociopolitical upheavals of the early 20th century: totalitarianism, modernization, and the increasingly rapid cultural change. I hope that by analyzing her theory, some greater sense can be made of the strange events happening today.
