Behind the Curtain: Althea Hunt as Directress, Professor, and Feminist

Hometown: Williamsburg, Virginia

Department: History

Advisor: Richard Palmer

Description: Althea Hunt pioneered the establishment of William and Mary theatre as a single, female professor in 1926. Hunt never married, nor did she have children during an era in which this was an expectation of upper-middle class women. Further research on Hunt's impact as a woman on campus is especially important in light of the upcoming 100th anniversary of women's admittance to the College.

All William & Mary Honors Fellowships fundraising supports the Charles Center Honors Fellowships Fund. Direct support for individual undergraduate research projects is distributed by the Roy R. Charles Center for Academic Excellence
