Lavender Graduation Celebration

This campaign ended on December 07, 2018, but you can still make a gift to William & Mary by clicking here!

William & Mary strives every day to live up to the promise of “those who come here, belong here.” Our Lavender Graduation Celebration is part of our commitment to making sure that our LGBTQ+ students know that not only are they meant to survive here, but that they will truly thrive. It’s a commemoration of all of the hard work and resilience this community brings to our campus and a recognition of how these students continuously change our campus for the better.

For the class of 2018, William & Mary hosted the inaugural Lavender Graduation Celebration. This celebration provides graduating seniors who are members of the LGBTQ+ community the opportunity to come together and celebrate their accomplishments and resilience with their given and chosen families. During the celebration students select someone who has had a meaningful impact on their life to bestow them with a rainbow stole honoring their rite of passage. When the planning team began working to make this project a reality, it was our hope to have at least 10 students participate. However, in our first year we surpassed the goal, celebrating 26 graduates with 140 of their loved ones in attendance. Now, we are asking you to be a part of this new tradition as it grows.

This ambitious goal of $25,000 will help fund the celebration through the class of 2025. A contribution of $50 supports one graduate to be a part of celebration. Gifts of $250 or more during this campaign, donors will replica replica of the lapel pin given to graduates during the ceremony. Because every dollar matters, all of our donors will be listed in the Lavender Graduation Celebration program as we want you to be a part of our diverse tapestry.
