Project Description:
Languages often differ in the features they use to show word stress, which can directly impact a statement's meaning, but these differences are often ignored in second language education. My research, conducted in Lima, Peru, will examine non-native English speakers' thresholds of stress perception for different acoustic cues to see the effect of one's first language on the ability to perceive stress in a second.
