RNF4's Role in Stripping Transcriptionally-Active Huntington on a Genome Wide Level

Description: Altered gene expression is a hallmark of neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington's Disease. The causative agent of Huntington's is a mutant, aggregation-prone form of huntingtin (htt) that accumulates in neuronal cells but is degraded by human RNF4. We will investigate whether RNF4 reduces the transcriptional activity of mutant htt in a tissue culture model of Huntington's and the role that RNF4 plays in inhibiting transcriptionally-active huntingtin.
