Agency: William & Mary (BOV)
Type: Expendable
Fund Name: Immigration Clinic Student Fund
Purpose: To provide support for students in William & Mary Law School’s Immigration Clinic to represent asylum seekers, including travel expenses.
Fund Administrator: Manager, Financial Operations, Law School
Goal: $2,500
Goal Not Met: Continue fundraising
Goal Exceeded: Support for future efforts
As part of their training in the Clinic, students from the William & Mary Law School Immigration Clinic travel to Arlington to represent asylum seekers at their interviews and trials. The only Asylum Office and the only Immigration Court in Virginia are located in Arlington, meaning that Clinic students and staff must travel to Arlington for each trial or interview that clients have. Clinic students prepare for interviews and trials over the courts of many semesters in order to prove to the government why our clients should be allowed to stay in the United States.
Donations through TribeFunding will help offset the cost of travel to and from court, so that our students can focus instead on winning their case. Supporting the Immigration Clinic through TribeFunding is a critical way to support our work representing immigrants who would otherwise have to make their case without an attorney.
The William & Mary Law School Immigration Clinic represents immigrants in Hampton Roads in their immigration matters, including those who are survivors of violence, trafficking, persecution, and torture. The Immigration Clinic's work is funded by private donations and grants.
