Title: Christening Gowns and Social Influence in the Victorian Era
Department: Art History
Description: This project will explore the influence of the British Royal Christening Gown (created for Victoria, Princess Royal in 1841) on the christening gowns of other Victorian Era babies and how these gowns played crucial roles in the presentation of babies to society. The project will focus on christening gowns created between 1841 and 1900, with emphasis on christening gowns made between 1841 and 1880. Christening gowns included in this research will have been primarily created in Britain with some having been created in America.
