Title: Discursive Strategies of Political Figures on Twitter About Race Leading Up To The 2020 Presidential Election
Department: Linguistics
Description: In May 2020, with the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, race became an incredibly salient topic in politics. This research will examine what discursive strategies political figures employ, on Twitter, to construct their political and social identities regarding race leading up the Presidential election in 2020. The project also aims to analyze whether political figures of a similar ideology employ similar strategies. With the 2024 Presidential election occurring next year, it is critical to examine these discourse strategies political figures employ.
