The founders of the Global Innovation Challenge (WMGIC) were largely interested in global health and the interconnectedness of the world. After seeing case competitions for other subjects but none for international development, the founders decided to take on the challenge of developing their own, unique competition focused around international development.
Established in 2017, WMGIC provides undergraduate students worldwide a platform for open collaboration and discussion with peers, faculty, and knowledgeable professionals to analyze and create sustainable and scalable solutions. The competition increases studentsโ knowledge about the case study, design thinking, holistic sustainability, innovative processes, and policy entrepreneurship. Teams of three to five indicate a preference among the governance, social entrepreneurship, technology, and business consulting streams of problem-solving, where they work with mentors and present proposals to industry judges within 24 hours. Top teams are chosen as finalists which then give public presentations. WMGIC is a recognized student organization at William & Mary and featured by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the International Conference on Sustainable Development.
Tribefunding will be imperative in helping our team of 20 reach our goal of stabilizing and expanding the operations and scope of WMGIC.
