To What Extent Are Hegemonic Norms of Masculinity Evoked and Emphasized Through Membership in Black Greek Letter Organizations?

Hometown: Newport News, Virginia

Department: Africana Studies

Advisor: Iyabo Osiapem

In my research, I will explore the connection between Black Greek Letter Organizations and the perception of masculinity. The goal of my research is to understand various forms of systemic oppression within Black communities. This will give me the opportunity to expand my knowledge around this topic that I plan to examine in my postgraduate career. I endeavor to educate on wholistic backgrounds of cultural groups in addition to identifying institutionalized struggles that affect them.
