200 days ago by Rebekah CheneyHey, Catamounts! You may have received an email from GiveCampus this morning that re-sent our "Wave the royal banner high" post featuring our Pride of the Mountains Marching Band and asking you to participate in One Day for Western. Our partners at GiveCampus let us know this was just a bug in the system that affected a few campaigns that have already ended, so no cause for alarm. We received your gift and appreciate your generosity! Our team is still working hard to share finalized totals in the coming days, so we'll provide a (real) update soon.
In the interim, we hope you're having a great week and send our gratitude to members of Catamount nation far and wide!
Gratefully,
Rebekah B. Cheney
Director of Annual Giving
207 days ago by Rebekah CheneyWhat a day (and then some), Catamounts! Thank you to every single person who helped make one day possible for our students. Whether you made a gift, shared our message, cheered us on, or did all three - your contributions matter and impacted our success this year.
We will be finalizing our totals in the coming days and are excited to report more on the impact of your generosity. Until then, please know that we are incredibly grateful for your support!
Go Cats!
Warmly,
Rebekah B. Cheney

213 days ago by Rebekah CheneyCatamounts: there's still time to make one day possible. We're still reaching for the biggest giving day goal we've ever aimed for, and we know we can accomplish it with your help! Beyond making a gift, the best way you can help is to share our message with your networks and remind your fellow Catamounts to give and share, too! We'll keep counting until 5 p.m. Thursday, so keep advocating for our incredible programs and students. GO CATS!

214 days ago by Rebekah CheneyCatamount nation, this is what happens when we come together...
Last year, One Day for Western donors supported countless projects and programs to make one day possible for Catamounts. Remember how the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band was preparing to travel to Dublin, Ireland for their first international trip? One Day for Western donors played a critical role in these students' experience.
What cause (or causes) will you support this year as we work to fill the Western sky? Help us turn the map purple by encouraging donors from every state to support WCU today.

The College of Health and Human Sciences featured the Physical Therapy Department and the Mountain Area Pro Bono Health Clinic (MAPHealth) as one of the giving priorities for the 2023 One Day For Western efforts. The generosity of many faculty, students, friends, and community members provides for the funding that is needed for equipment that is given free of charge to our patients. Over the years, the clinic has provided essential items such as footwear, shoe inserts, braces, assistive devices, therapeutic tape, stretch bands, and more. Specifically, funds from the One Day For Western spring 2023 campaign assisted with purchasing:
- a Hipitty Hop for a young girl needing a safe and fun way to regain leg strength and learn to jump
- a walker with a special platform was purchased to help an adult patient relearn walking after being unable to do so for over two years
- a pediatric reverse walker that allowed a young boy to learn to take his first steps on his own
One Day For Western provided a way to spotlight needs to assist in program endeavors that are critical to the College of Health and Human Sciences and impact our programs and students as they work to enhance the health and well-being of those we serve.
For the MAPHealth Clinic, the amazing generosity of One Day for Western donors and supporters provided critical items to the patients who are in great need and a tremendous learning experience for our students.

215 days ago by Rebekah CheneyCatamounts, we want to turn the map purple on April 3. We need at least one donor from all 50 states to fill the Western sky, so reach out to Catamounts (and friends of Catamount nation) far and wide! After all, what's more beautiful than a sky full of purple?
States we've already received gifts from are North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Indiana, Colorado, and Hawaii. Only 38 to go!
Your choice to give to programs across the College of Health and Human Sciences today and to support the Excellence Endowment to fund the future impact not only our students, but our entire community.
In addition to the College of Health and Human Sciences Excellence Fund, there are a wide variety of opportunities you can support on One Day for Western, including:
Nursing: the School of Nursing offers nationally-ranked, accredited, and affordable undergraduate and graduate programs. This program boasts extremely high board passage rates, and seeks to educate nurse leaders who are dedicated to caring and participating with individuals, families, and communities to meet health needs. Your investment allows the program to continue growing and providing an excellent student experience for future nurses.
Speech and Hearing Clinic: the Speech and Hearing Clinic provides high quality clinical services to individuals with communication disorders, while also creating unique training opportunities for the CSD graduate students through clinical practicum, supervision, and research. Your support helps provide additional services to community members, which creates more experiential learning opportunities for students.
Social Work: the mission of the Department of Social Work at Western Carolina University is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to practice. Congruent with the University’s mission to improve individual lives and enhance community development in the predominately rural WNC region, the department seeks to prepare professionals who are committed to the core Social Work values of respect for all people and advancement of social and economic justice. This year marks the program's 50th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than support the program on One Day for Western?!
Will you support the College on One Day for Western to have a broad impact on our College and the surrouding community?
