One Day for Western is an opportunity for you to show your support and commitment to WCU’s Hunter Library. Your gifts to the Friends of Hunter will help increase opportunities for student enrichment, access to healthy food during exams, and provide additional funding for work study.
Join us on One Day for Western and make a direct impact on our students and their experience at WCU. Our goal is for 25 donors to make a gift on March 29, but we can only get there with your help!
Thank you for being part of our very first One Day for Western! Check out this thank you video to hear from our campus community how much we appreciate your support. Go Cats!

Catamounts, you never cease to amaze me. The way you showed up to make one day possible was inspirational, especially in our inaugural year of this all-in giving day!
The initial numbers are in, and we are excited to share that 1,058 donors contributed over $260,000 on One Day for Western. And we're still counting. These gifts will enable amazing projects to materialize, life-changing trips to be taken, and critical programs to continue their good work throughout our community—and it’s all because of your generosity. We cannot wait to share these impact stories with you over the next several months so you can see your investment in action.
Thank you to everyone who gave, shared, or elevated our message on One Day for Western. We are beyond grateful for your support.
Go Cats!
Thankfully,

Rebekah B. Cheney

Hunter Library is an essential part of the student experience at Western Carolina University. The library provides millions of information resources in a variety of physical and electronic formats, training and other services that help students understand how to conduct research and evaluate information, facilities and spaces for individual and group study and intellectual exploration, and a variety of events and programming that welcome students of all backgrounds to celebrate intellectual and creative achievements.
Your giving to Hunter Library will strengthen our ability to support students in the following ways:
- Provide employment opportunities for library student workers. Most of the students who work in the library are funded through federal work-study grants, and it is very common for students who want to work to run out of work-study funding in the middle of a semester. Many students have no choice but to work to support themselves, and your support will make it possible for Hunter Library to hire more students to work full semesters and throughout the summer. Many people who work in libraries got their start as student employees, so your financial support also helps us expose students to the idea of a career in libraries or other information professions.
- Enhanced student experiences. The library is not just a place to study, it also is a place on campus that is open later hours than many other buildings. Students meet at the library to socialize, share ideas and explore their interests with other like-minded people, and participate in a wide variety of events and activities. Your financial support also helps the library provide programming for students seeking positive and enriching breaks from the stresses and pressures of classes and homework.
- Buying resources that cannot be purchased with allocated state dollars. Hunter Library uses your financial support to purchase a) food and other refreshments for students attending library events, b) pay for speakers, entertainers, and trainers at library activities, and c) materials and supplies that help support student participation in our events and activities.
You can choose to support Hunter Library with a direct financial donation, or by joining the Friends of Hunter Library organization, that provides member benefits while also supporting students. Thank you for your support of Hunter Library on One Day for Western and beyond!
