Nurse Anesthesia Cameroon Trip

48% of $6,000 goal
This campaign ended on November 05, 2022, but you can still make a gift to Webster University by clicking here!

Webster Nurse Anesthesia students are headed to Cameroon, Africa again this fall to practice life-saving work and share critical care knowledge. The trip marks the second time – after last year’s great success – that our nursing students will have such a remarkable opportunity not just to train, but to make a lasting impact through their efforts.

Cameroon is a lower-middle-income country and one of many African countries facing a health crisis due to a critical shortage of health workers and resources. According to the World Health Organization, the country has roughly one doctor and three nurses or midwives per 10,000 of its people. In addition, the already high maternal mortality rate is on the rise.  But we can help! And our students can gain unparalleled training.

Webster is sending three second-year nurse anesthesia students, accompanied by a nurse anesthesia faculty member (Michael Burns) who will provide on-line and in-person education on the insertion and management of peripheral nerve blocks as well as advanced airway and hemorrhage management. We will again provide podcast and YouTube video learning opportunities followed by in-person workshops in Buea, Cameroon. We will be working in conjunction with the Association of Cameroonian Nurse Anesthetists in America and the Association of Nurse Anesthetists in France (who will provide translation services for our lectures and videos).

Any efforts to supplement the cost of this project are so greatly appreciated not just by our students, but by the nurses, expectant mothers and other patients in Cameroon who will ultimately benefit.

Thank you for your support!
