About

Giving Day contributions of every size make a major difference! Support one of these projects today or give to another area that helps the College of Education.

Ready! Set! Give! Once the College of Education has raised $25,000, a generous $25,000 gift from Marion Ringe ’70, M.A. ‘77 will be unlocked.

Detroit PEER Center

At the College of Education, a strong curriculum is just one way we prepare students for the future. We also strive to be on the cutting edge of meaningful research that impacts our community and beyond. The new Detroit Partnership for Education Equity & Research (Detroit PEER) center is an example of just that. Detroit PEER will be the first research center focused exclusively on producing research to advance equitable education policy and practice in partnership with families, students, educators, community groups, and policymakers in Detroit. Your gift today will help Detroit PEER produce high quality research that will impact Detroit, and beyond.

College of Education Student Emergency Fund

The College of Education Student Emergency Fund supports students who face unexpected hardships that have an immediate impact on their personal or academic well-being, such as job loss or unstable housing. Since its inception, the Student Emergency Fund has had a transformational impact on the lives of several education students — allowing one student to purchase a new laptop to replace one that was damaged in a house fire and allowing another student to stay enrolled while battling health complications and the accompanying medical bills. Your gift today will help support more College of Education students during their time of need.

College of Education Finish Line Scholarship

The College of Education Finish Line Scholarship supports students who have dropped out due to financial need or hardship through dedicated degree-completion funding. This support helps students focus on their futures as educators, coaches and counselors rather than their finances. Your gift to the Finish Line Scholarship directly and immediately impacts students by removing the barriers that block them from completing their degrees and helping them continue their success beyond college. Education students receiving financial assistance to complete their graduate coursework are often held back from graduating by less than $3,000, or the equivalent of one three-credit course at Wayne State. In the Finish Line Scholarship’s pilot year, the College of Education provided eight master’s students a total of $21,649 to complete their final courses needed for graduation. The average award per student was $2,700 and all eight students completed their degrees. With your support, the college can offer this scholarship to a second cohort of graduate students in the summer and fall of 2023.

Art Therapy Program Conference Fund

Our Art Therapy program prepares students to become professional art therapists and counselors who are knowledgeable in art therapy and counseling theories and techniques, can translate these theories into effective practice, have the commitment, competence, respect for diversity among all people and ascribe to the highest ethical standards and practices. This Giving Day, gifts to the Art Therapy Program will support conference attendance for our students, which will provide opportunities for students to have hands-on learning experiences with peers and expand their skillset. Your gift today will provide support to future art therapists and counselors.

Education Scholars Alliance

The College of Education recognizes the lack of underrepresented teachers in today's classrooms and seeks to decrease that gap through the Education Scholars Alliance (ESA).

The ESA provides academic and professional support to program participants. This program is a helpful tool for underrepresented students seeking to receive support and guidance in a field in which they are traditionally underrepresented and is open to assist other students who wish to participate. Your gift today will provide support to future teachers who are traditionally underrepresented in the field of education.
