About
Giving Day contributions of every size make a major difference! Support the DEIA Acquisitions Graduate Internship today or give to another area that helps the WSU Press. Today only, the WSU Press Board of Visitors will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for all contributions made to the WSU Press – up to $5,000! Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Acquisitions Graduate Internship Diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) supports fully realizing the abilities and contributions of all people. Gifts to support this internship ensure that graduate students receive a stipend to professionally grow in these values within the world of publishing. According to a survey by Lee & Low, diversity in publishing matters because, "The book industry has the power to shape culture in big and small ways.". Yet, "79 percent of respondents identified as White. 78 percent were women. 88 percent were straight. 92 percent were non-disabled. At a time when readers of all backgrounds were demanding to see themselves in books, the publishing industry came nowhere near to reflecting the rich diversity of the United States." Wayne State University Press particularly invites people of color; queer and trans people; and disabled people to apply for this internship. Funds raised will support this student job with a $3,000 stipend for a student to work 15 hours/week for 12 weeks. This truly dynamic internship is an opportunity for humanities and social science scholars to explore a fulfilling alternative to an academic career and gives a sufficient overview of the publishing process and university presses. Paid internships help promote equity and diversity initiatives by mitigating the economic and social impacts that stand in the way of success of historically underrepresented populations. With our support, this internship will not only help a student become an included and inclusive leader in their field, but it also will have a global DEIA impact in publishing and society.
