About

Utica College’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

A Message from Dr. Anthony Baird ’91

While we may have turned the page on 2020, the unprecedented challenges we face as a nation remain, and there is no clear path to ensuring that we can work, collectively, to resolve them. From the deadly pandemic, to flagrant acts of racism and pervasive social injustice, to a nation bitterly divided politically, the challenges are daunting and the commitment to confronting them remains an imperative.

How You Can Support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Utica College

Funding is currently underway for three new scholarships created to expand access to the life-changing power of a Utica College education. As part of the College’s celebration of Black Heritage during the month of February, please consider supporting one or more of the following scholarships:

Utica College Black Alumni Association's Jonathan Adewumi '86 Memorial Scholarship awarded to a full-time junior or senior undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need and exceptional leadership qualities that embody the spirit of entrepreneur and loyal alumnus Jonathan Adewumi '86.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Robert D. Horton Endowed Scholarship awarded annually to undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who exhibit a high level of leadership, persistence, perseverance, and dedication to community service.

The Dean Alane Varga Black Lives Matter Social Justice Scholarship awarded annually to an undergraduate student from an underrepresented population who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive and equitable community through engagement in activities furthering social justice.

In addition, Utica College is hosting a series of virtual programs, film screenings, lectures, and discussions during the month of February, open to everyone in the greater College community.

Visit utica.edu/blackheritage to see the full schedule.

*All donations made to these scholarships are fully tax-deductible.  You will receive an email receipt of this gift for those purposes.
