It’s time to spread our wings!
The UW Symphony will be touring Europe during Spring Break. We will be performing in Nice and Avignon, France, and Barcelona, Spain. We will also visit significant cultural sites there and in Aix-en-Provence. A great medieval cathedral, a body of water where the far side can’t be seen, a world-class art museum, a simple French boulevard café, the architecture of Gaudi—all these will be entirely new to most of our students. It will be a life-changing experience for them.
Except for going to Bolivia in 2007, we’ve only performed near home. In 2007, many of the students had never left the country or even Wyoming.
A big tour of the UW Symphony will do wonders for the ensembles’ esprit de corps, motivating the students’ practicing and performing in the long tiring rehearsals. This tour will burnish the orchestra’s and UW’s reputation, helping recruiting for years to come. For all those reasons, and more, an exciting trip like this is appropriate and well worth the effort.
