The Gordie Center's 2024 spring campaign is raising funds toward our goal to conduct a national survey on hazing behaviors on college campuses. There is a need for current data -- the last (and only) national survey about hazing was completed in 2008 by researchers at the University of Maine. Over the past year, the Gordie Center has worked with graduate students in the Department of Public Health Science within the UVA School of Medicine (Kristen and Emma in the video above!) and with national partners to draft this new survey. After finalizing the draft, we will hold focus groups with UVA students to get feedback on the survey questions and wording to ensure we are asking the right questions in a way students understand. Before we launch nationwide, we will pilot the survey at UVA and hopefully at least one other university to make final improvements. This spring campaign will fund the costs for the UVA Center for Survey Research (part of UVA’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service) to administer the pilot survey and provide incentives for students to participate in focus groups and complete the pilot survey.
The cost of the pilot survey, and our 2024 spring campaign goal, is $50,000. We have a $1:$1 match up to $15,000 from a generous donor to double your impact and help us get there! The Gordie Center’s mission is to end hazing and substance misuse among college and high school students nationwide, and we need your support to reach our $50,000 goal to pilot a new national survey on hazing behaviors. Thank you!
