About

UVM Alternative Spring Break (ASB) has two missions: provide a fun and meaningful way for students to spend their spring break, and to provide hands on support to communities in need. Historically, UVM ASB has partnered with many organizations across the East Coast to lend a helping hand to a variety of good causes. Prior to the pandemic, ASB has participated in environmental cleanups at Cape Hatteras State Park, helped refurbish medical equipment to send to under-resourced communities across the world with Project Cure, supported natural disaster relief organizations in Georgia, worked alongside disabled adults and children at Champions of the Ozarks.

In 2023, ASB revived after the pandemic years to work on projects with Habitat for Humanity in both Charleston, South Carolina and here in Vermont. The opportunity to explore issues of housing insecurity both in our home state of Vermont and in another state provided a rich context for the work that we were doing. Students arrived home to Burlington with a better understanding of housing and homelessness as a whole.

Check out the video above to hear about how UVM students felt about working with Habitat for Humanity in Charleston last year!

This spring, UVM ASB plans to travel to Nashville to work with Project Cure, to Baltimore to help Civic Works urban farm prepare for the new season, and lastly to Charleston again to work on deserving homes with Habitat for Humanity.

We are so honored to have the support of so many wonderful alumni and donors. Thank you for your contributions! With your help, we are able to organize more trips to support non-profit organizations and subsidize the cost of these trips for more students to participate.

Our goal is to raise the total amount for a single service trip: $10,410. Any help you can provide to help us get there is so appreciated.

For instance, your donation of $20 covers a participant’s meal while they are volunteering. A donation of $50 offsets the site fees for one participant at organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. A $90 contribution covers the rental cost of vans. A donation of $146 subsidizes the total cost of gas for 600 miles of travel.
