Technology Tools

This campaign ended on April 25, 2019, but you can still make a gift to University of St. Thomas - Houston by clicking here!

In order to be able to effectively integrate technology into teaching, pre-service teachers must have experience.  It is more than just knowing how to use laptops or tablet devices – although that is certainly part of it.  Teachers need to know the strengths and weaknesses of the technology tools be able to effectively plan lessons and activities for their future students.  Over the past six years, I have purchased some tools and demonstrated them in classes, but these items are not enough for the new course which will explore not just apps and computer programs, but virtual/augmented reality, makerspace, digital fabrication, using coding and robots, just to name a few.  It is important to have more tools than what I currently have available to me for this course that will be part of every undergraduate degree plan.

For this reason, I would like to raise at least $1000 in order to be able to purchase non-computer hardware to be used by students in the School of Education and Human Services.  These items will be incorporated into a new course that will be offered in the fall semester each year, but may be demonstrated in other courses taught by me as an introduction to ways to use technology.  These non-computer hardware items include two Silhouette desktop cutters and supplies to use with the device such as cutting mats, replacement blades, cardstock, etc.; different robots such as Wonder Workshop Dash, Sphero SPRK, and/or Ozobot Evo.  Any additional funds can be used to purchase more apps and/or software.
