Inspiring and educating future distinguished diplomats is the mission of The Distinguished Diplomat Program of the University of St. Thomas’ Center for International Studies – a partnership with the American Foreign Service Association in Washington, D.C.
The DDP, launched less than two years ago with the inaugural lecture by former Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte, has grown tremendously from its initial beginnings just two short years ago, into a continuing and vibrant Houston forum for the debate of critical U.S foreign policy issues. We have already presented over 30 events –-Crisis and Issues Briefings, Business Issue Luncheons, Career Briefings for students, Book Lecture Dinners, many at the Ambassadorial level, and a biennial conference launched in the spring of 2013.
Diplomacy and diplomatic skills have never before been as important for the success of U.S. foreign relations and American business internationally. Current global conditions offer unparalleled opportunities for foreign policy and for international commerce. Equally great challenges and risks face both. To meet them successfully both public and private sectors will need a new generation of leadership, skill, and talent. We hope the DD Program will inspire students and the public at large to appreciate diplomacy as a rewarding craft, and a fulfilling career.
Proceeds raised will go into the University’s Distinguished Diplomat Endowment to support the biennial lecture and DDP programming throughout the year.
Please consider supporting our critical effort to inspire and educate future distinguished diplomats.
