Support the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry on Torero Tuesday!
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department places experiential learning at the heart of training students to realize their STEM careers in industry, healthcare, academia, non-profits, military, and so many more areas of our community. Undergraduate research experiences exemplify this student-centered, hands-on approach to nurturing our students’ research acumen.
Our majors (and minors!) can attest faculty labs are hopping with research activity year round - but summers are special. The time to focus and dig deep into a project is unparalleled in the return on investment that we see in student confidence in their technical and critical thinking skills. The Alumni Research Fellowship makes these summer research experiences possible! As the name implies, alumni donations are pooled and awarded to a Chemistry or Biochemistry major as a summer stipend, allowing the student to work with their faculty mentor in a 10-week research experience.
The number and frequency of fellowships awarded depends on the balance of funds in the fellowship account. Since its inception in 2012, we have awarded 15 fellowships. For summer 2025, we have $4,187.87 of the $6,000 needed to make a Summer 2025 award. We are sending out an appeal to all students (future alumni!), parents, and alumni to consider donating to ensure future students have these research opportunities. Thank you for your support!
