Support the Department of Mathematics' Shoula Shamoun Award on Torero Tuesday
Each spring, the Department of Mathematics honors an outstanding tutor with the Shoula Shamoun Award for Outstanding Tutoring. The award is given to an exceptional tutor in our Mathematics Learning Center, which is staffed by trained USD undergraduates. Shoula Shamoun, who died young of cancer, was an alumna of our department. She was a member of the Chaldean community and a refugee. She also for a time worked in the Immaculata. For many years she worked alongside faculty to support students by offering tutoring services. She was an exceptional tutor and an important member of both our department and the wider USD community.
It is our goal to raise enough funding to endow this award and generate a small cash prize to the recipients. All gifts make a difference in helping us to reach our goal!
