UNC Asheville Team GLITCH

This campaign ended on March 10, 2018, but you can still make a gift to University of North Carolina at Asheville by clicking here!

UNC Asheville-sponsored Team GLITCH is a robotics team comprised of students from several local high schools and homeschoolers. Under strict rules, limited resources, and a strict six-week time limit, the team must design and build an industrial-size robot and compete against other teams from all over the world. In 2017, there were 3,357 teams competing and 83,000+ participants.

Yearly costs to run the season are large. Our competition fees alone can run up to $14,000 depending on the level of advancement. There is a cost to build the robot, along with tools and supplies. Uniform and Team Spirit costs (banners, tent, handout items), transportation to events, hotel costs, as well as outreach opportunities to the community. Your support of Team GLITCH gives us the resources and opportunity to succeed in this highly competitive program.

In their rookie season, GLITCH earned a rookie spot at the World Championship in St. Louis, MO. In their second season, we advanced to state championships and won a special award for our extensive community outreach. In addition to the competition season, a main goal of GLITCH is outreach to the community. We volunteer weekly throughout the year at the local Boys and Girls Club, teaching Lego robotics and offering after-school tutoring. We also help run a robotics portion of a summer camp at the Asheville Museum of Science. In addition, we have hosted a high school programming competition at UNCA attended by teams from throughout North Carolina.

We represent the organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Founded in 1989, FIRST is a non-profit dedicated to inspiring young people's interest and participation in science and technology, and to motivate them to pursue education and career opportunities in STEM fields.

Your gift to GLITCH helps to create a passion for learning, discovery, and creativity in your community! Thank you for your support!
