Support Math Outreach with a Gift to the Strategic Fund - 320774
The Mathematics Department runs several successful outreach programs for area students as well as their teachers. Please consider a donation to help sustain and expand these impactful programs.
The Math Corps summer program is a free math camp for middle school students and high school mentors from under-resourced area schools. Math Corps students are taught by current or recent undergraduates, math faculty, and PhD students. The effectiveness of the program is demonstrated by a nearly 50% increase in math knowledge from pretest to post-test. In addition, students express strong interest in returning to camp and continuing as mentors as they grow. The success of Math Corps is rooted in the principle that every child possesses a unique greatness within them, and this principle shapes all aspects of the program. The Math Corps is about more than math skills: the program prioritizes inspiration, self-esteem and mentorship through a kids-teaching-kids model, providing a dynamic learning environment and a strong sense of community. Our Math Circle is another enrichment program for area students seeking to learn exciting extra-curricular mathematics on topics, which can range from fractals to the mathematics of gerrymandering. These weekly meetings are hosted by faculty and graduate students, with undergraduate mentors helping as students work collaboratively on fascinating problems. Similarly, the Math Teacher’s Circle offers enrichment for area mathematics teachers in a dynamic forum designed to inspire and expose them to cutting edge mathematics. This initiative enhances educators' understanding of mathematics, empowering them to inspire the next generation of learners.
Please join us in supporting these programs. Every contribution today to the Strategic Fund makes a difference in nurturing the potential of future mathematicians and in enriching the educational experience for teachers and students alike.
