Nursing Diversity Scholarships

This campaign ended on November 14, 2018, but you can still make a gift to University of Massachusetts-Lowell by clicking here!

As the diversity of our nation increases, there is a greater need for a diverse nursing workforce. Together, we can address this need by investing in the success of our nursing students.

When we invest in the success of UMass Lowell nursing students that reflect our nation’s demographics, our graduates can provide culturally competent care and contribute to reducing health disparities that exist today. Health care disparities are inequalities that occur in the access and quality of health care among different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Nurses who are more representative of the people that they serve can provide personalized care to promote the health of people with diverse behaviors, beliefs, and values, including their social, cultural, and linguistic needs. For example, when nurses speak the same language as their patients or are sensitive to cultural differences, their patients have better health outcomes.

A gift to the Bring Diversity to Nursing Give Campaign will help support baccalaureate nursing student scholarships. Eligible recipients are nursing students who self-identify as from racial, ethnic, economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds not typically represented in the nursing profession. While graduates from Lowell or Lawrence High Schools are given preference, graduates from other high schools also are considered.

Your gift of any size will help to make a difference in the life of a UMass Lowell nursing student. Your gift can make a difference between success and failure, between dropping out or achieving the dream to remain in school. In the words of Arthur Ashe, “From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.” Let’s make a lasting impact on the life of a nursing student.

Please give as generously as you can. Thank you.

And please encourage alums, families, friends and workplace colleagues to join you in making a gift to support UMass Lowell nursing student scholarships. It is through the collective efforts of everyone that we can help to ensure a nursing workforce that better reflects the diversity and greatness of our nation.
