“I believe the STAR Center would be a great benefit to our healthcare community. As students, it would allow us to implement teamwork and collaboration, which is essential to our work in the future. Education in this type of facility would prepare us to be more successful and competent upon graduation. Something we do not get much practice on is communicating with other professions such as NPs, PAs, and physicians, which we would be able to do here. It would not only benefit us now, but could be a decision maker for those who are deciding on a graduate school to attend. This modern technology distinguishes Detroit Mercy from all other schools. I, myself, would choose to reenroll for graduate school at University of Detroit Mercy if I knew this would be incorporated into my education. As president of the Student Nurse Association, I can speak on behalf of the student body to say that the STAR Center would be a turning point in our education, and that we would feel more prepared and confident in our role as future nurses.”  — Katherine Kassa, Nursing Student

The Simulation, Technology and Research (STAR) Center

The College of Health Professions & McAuley School of Nursing graduate the next generation of healthcare professionals who will lead the charge to transform individual and community health systems. The Simulation, Technology and Research Center (STAR) will provide opportunities for interprofessional and community collaborations, enhanced programming and the application of innovative technology in a flexible environment.

The overall project consists of converting space in the College of Health Professions facility into the STAR Center, a large, flexible space that can be used across the healthcare curricula. Reimagining our learning space to infuse collaboration across the board will drive a healthcare education movement that benefits the students, patients and the communities we serve. The STAR Center will be the nucleus that connects the McNichols Campus, with our Detroit Mercy campuses at Aquinas-Grand Rapids and Novi.

The impact will be felt across southeast Michigan and beyond as partnerships with health systems and community groups are forged that lead to better healthcare outcomes.

You can make a one time gift or choose to make a larger gift over time by choosing the recurring gift option.
