Experiential Learning has defined our culture for more than a century. Celebrating 120 years, our Clinical Programs are the first of their kind in the nation. We prioritize our students and are dedicated to providing the practical skills they need to succeed in their chosen careers. Denver Law’s Clinical Program offers students the opportunity to learn lawyering skills in the real world, working with clients who face a variety of issues and might not otherwise have legal representation.
Clinical legal education, which is essential to shaping skilled, compassionate lawyers, and at the University of Denver, our Student Law Office (SLO) is at the forefront of this mission. With seven in-house clinics dedicated to advancing social change, criminal defense, civil litigation, civil rights, community economic development, environmental law, and immigration law and policy, our students gain invaluable hands-on experience.
Your support enables students to acquire vital skills such as interviewing and counseling clients, developing case theories, conducting investigations, negotiating settlements, and representing clients in trials. They also learn to draft contracts, bylaws, and articles of incorporation, while gaining insights into legal ethics, confidentiality, and conflict of interest. At the SLO, we prioritize case management skills, ensuring that students handle their cases with effectiveness and efficiency. Most importantly, our program fosters empathy and understanding for underserved clients, preparing students to advocate for those who need it most.
