Dr. Susan K. Spezzini Endowed Scholarship

To honor Dr. Susan Spezzini's legacy and impact on the Engish as a Second Language (ESL) education program and the multilingual community in Alabama and the Southeast, the UAB School of Education and Human Sciences is working to establish the Dr. Susan Spezzini Endowed Scholarship for ESL education. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to students pursuing a Master of Arts in ESL. The focus of this scholarship is on students who are first-generation college students, those who have faced challenges in their life, and/or those who demonstrate a commitment to bringing diverse people together as Dr. Spezzini has strived to do throughout her decades-long career.

The goal of the fund is to raise $25,000 to endow the scholarship ensuring that Dr. Spezzini’s legacy in the UAB School of Education and Human Sciences lives on forever. The fund is anchored by Dr. Spezzini’s personal gift of $1,000 with an additional $4,000 over the next two years.

Establishing this scholarship will honor Dr. Spezzini's dedication to the field of ESL for years to come.
