About

My name is Ben Brannan and I am the Representative for Class 2019. Each year the final-level students provide a gift to the Seminary. It allows us to give back to the school that has nurtured our faith and studies during the time spent at Union Presbyterian Seminary. This is our way of saying “Thank You” to the faculty, staff, students, and all others associated with Union.

This year, we have decided to honor Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon with our class gift--to honor and recognize an amazing woman, teacher, Christian, and friend that Dr. Cannon was and is. It also goes to honor her appreciation of learning and reading. With the help of the Morton Library staff, we have teamed up to create…The Katie Geneva Cannon Research Collection.

This curated collection will be presented through a link on the Morton Library web site designed to highlight works related to Ethics and Womanist Theology. In each of her Introduction to Ethics classes, Dr. Cannon would hand out a bibliography of works by various ethicists and would make the remark, “If you haven’t read any or all of these, you need to!” This is where we began the curation process. In addition, Dr. Paula Parker, Interim Director of the Katie Geneva Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership, provided an additional bibliography that captured the work of the Center. The titles range from general ethics to liberation and womanist theology.

Here is how you can help in creating The Katie Geneva Cannon Research Collection. We need your support in obtaining licenses for the eBooks. An average cost for an unlimited-user eBook is $180. By purchasing the eBooks, we provide access of the collection for both Union campuses. Class of 2019 is asking for generous alumni support to match our own giving amount of $1,500. With your support, our hope is to raise a total of $3,000. It will enable us to add 20 new eBooks for the collection.

We plan to make the collection available before graduation (May 18). The Class of 2019 has committed to $1,500 and now we are asking for your generous support!

Will you join the 2019 graduating class of Union Presbyterian Seminary in honoring Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon and continuing her work of inspiring innovative thinking?

 Yours in Ministry,

Ben Brannan ‘19
