In October 2017, tragedy struck the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a dear friend and PharmD classmate took his own life. His name was Mikey Nam, and he was someone who embodied positivity, joy, generosity, and truly believed in the motto “Pay It Forward.” His giving and selfless spirit has inspired students in the Kappa Epsilon Beta Mu fraternity on the pharmacy school’s Asheville campus to honor Mikey Nam through advocacy and support of activities that promote resilience, well-being and mental health for students, patients, communities and health care professionals.
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has a goal of $25,000 to establish the KE Beta Mu Well-Being & Resiliency Endowment. This fund will support an annual award to recognize a pharmacy student who demonstrates strong leadership in well-being and resiliency and embodies the same core values as Mikey – inclusion, friendship, compassion, and joy. The fund will also support well-being and resiliency activities at the pharmacy school.
With your help, we can make this endowment a reality and honor all that Mikey meant to so many by paying it forward to promote pharmacy well-being for years to come.
With the help of our wonderful community of supporters—including Carolina pharmacy students, faculty, alumni, preceptors and friends—we are thrilled to share that we have exceeded our $25,000 goal to establish the Kappa Epsilon Beta Mu Well-Being & Resiliency Endowment in honor of Mikey Nam. Thank you to everyone who contributed to help make this effort a success! Because of you, we now have a permanent legacy for Mikey and will be able to pay it forward to support well-being activities for years to come.
