DTH: Students Start the Presses

This campaign ends on November 30 at 12:00AM EST

For 125 years, UNC students have relied on the DTH. Big basketball wins. Protests. Campus tragedies. Through it all, the DTH has been there.

And it’s always been ~free~. But not really. It costs money to print and distribute the papers, offer student stipends and provide the training and mentoring that makes UNC’s college newspaper the best in America. It costs money to buy computers, equipment and software, and to pay the rent.

For many years, revenue from print advertising made the DTH free for students. That revenue is declining – part of a global shift in advertising and how people consume information. But students still need the news that helps them live life at UNC more fully.

Imagine if each student at UNC paid $5 for a year of news. It would break down to less than $0.20 per print edition, less than $0.15 per email newsletter or $2.50 per Duke basketball game paper. It wouldn’t cover all the DTH’s costs, but it would go a long way toward building a sustainable future for one of UNC’s oldest and best institutions.

We’re asking all UNC students to chip in $5 to support the independent voice of students at UNC. For less than the cost of lunch on Franklin Street, support the students who make your news every day.
