I am Leah Augustine and I am a freshman looking for God’s plan and purpose for my life. I am called to be a missionary.  Plain and simple.  Now, I know that we are all missionaries of God; called to go and proclaim the Good News of Jesus’s death and resurrection.  However, in 2012-2013, I felt this struggle within me to say, “Yes,” to this call.   It started with many people saying and observing that because I love people, I would be a great missionary.  Even people who didn’t know me believed this. I started to wrestle and struggle with God on this subject.  I was scared of what this would mean and wanted to be sure if this was really God calling me.

I was constantly wrestling with Scripture.  It seemed everything I would read circled back to the point of obedience to God’s call.  I would talk to my mom and youth pastor about this and would pray with them for guidance. I couldn’t shake the fear.  I was studying Matthew in Bible quizzing and couldn’t get over how quickly and obediently the disciples left everything to follow Jesus.  Was I willing to leave everything I had to proclaim Jesus?   Was I willing to leave the place of the comfort and the known and leap out in faith, knowing God had me?

These questions turned into prayers.  The wrestling and struggling, slowly gave way to peace and clarity.   I got home one week from Mission Nashville and I get a call asking if I would join the District Nazarene Missions International council. I was blown away.  I couldn’t help but think it was the Holy Spirit giving me an indication that it was His call I was hearing.  I accepted the offer and a few months later, during a revival, I decided to cross the line over to the unknown in obedience.   This is why I am studying Intercultural Studies here at Trevecca.  I am here because I know that God is paving my way for me.  I could be a horse rancher or farmer in some foreign land.  I could be a teacher to the deaf.  OR I could be a fitness instructor in the States.  I don’t know what the future has in store but I know that for now, I need to trust that what I know and have seen of God in the past will carry on to the future.
