FLARE - McKenzie Abernathy

This campaign ended on February 01, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Trevecca Nazarene University by clicking here!

Hello, my name is McKenzie Abernathy.  I am a senior exercise science major at Trevecca.  I plan to use my exercise science background to become a physical therapist, and I would love to specialize in working with amputee patients.  I have had a passion for physical therapy since I was a freshmen in high school.  My passion to become a physical therapist began when I had a couple of bad experiences as a physical therapy patient.  My negative experience drove me to pursue this career where I can positively impact people with physical therapy and rehabilitative needs.

I will be joining Dr. Aaron Hall, assistant professor of exercise science, and Dr. Yanice Mendez, associate professor of biology, with a group of Trevecca students to Jinotega, Nicaragua, where our work will center on injury and infectious disease prevention in a rural population. The goal of the project is to introduce us to the field of public health and its relationship to various other careers in the health sciences, including physical and occupational therapy, nursing, medicine and research careers. We will minister to a rural population served by the Misión para Cristo.

My goal through all of this is to promote health and bring joy to others any way I can.
