FLARE: Caleb Wharton

This campaign ended on March 30, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Trevecca Nazarene University by clicking here!

My name is Caleb Wharton and I am a Junior at Trevecca Nazarene University. I am an Exercise Science major, with a focus in Physical Therapy. I have always had a heart for people, and the desire to use the gifts God has given me to pour into other people. I have been given the opportunity to go on this trip to Nicaragua and could not be more excited, nor more thankful. I see this trip as an opportunity to love, be loved, and experience the world and other people. My dad always says, “A change in geography means a change in heart”. This trip is just that for me. This is another avenue for me to experience God’s creation and people in new ways.

I will be joining Dr. Aaron Hall, assistant professor of exercise science, and Dr. Yanice Mendez, associate professor of biology, with a group of Trevecca students to Jinotega, Nicaragua, where our work will center on injury and infectious disease prevention in a rural population. The goal of the project is to introduce us to the field of public health and its relationship to various other careers in the health sciences, including physical and occupational therapy, nursing, medicine and research careers. We will minister to a rural population served by the Misión para Cristo.

I have no doubt that this trip to Nicaragua will be a life changing experience, not only for me, but for everyone involved.
