Dr. Suzanne Wambold Retirement

This campaign ended on September 30, 2021, but you can still make a gift to The University of Toledo by clicking here!

Dr. Suzanne Wambold has always had an interest in health and education. Throughout her life she has paired the two into a career that has spanned over 30 years at The University of Toledo.

Sue began working as a registered nurse in 1977 with an associate's degree, then continued her education at The University of Toledo by earning her B.Ed. In 1989, Sue began teaching at the Community and Technical College as the Director of the Cardiovascular Program.  Soon after, Sue earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education, then eventually her Ph.D. in Health Education in 2002. As a constant learner, Sue didn't stop there and returned for a Nurse Paralegal Certificate in 2010.

After the elimination of the Cardiovascular Program in 2009, Dr. Wambold joined the Department of Kinesiology. Her focus was on the bachelor of exercise science in the human performance and fitness promotion concentration. From July 2014 through March 2016, she served as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology. This opportunity allowed her to work with a variety of graduate students focused on researching cardiovascular disease, strength and conditioning, obesity and diabetes.

Some may know of the scholarship Sue and her husband, Bob, started in memory of Sue’s beloved father-in-law Norb Wambold. One of Sue's favorite stories to highlight the generous nature of “Grandpa Norby” relates to her work with the Cardiovascular Program:

While working with the students in the Cardiovascular Program, live models were needed for the students to practice scanning and running EKGs on. Sometimes it was difficult to find these models so Grandpa Norby recruited several of his friends to come to campus weekly so the students could run the diagnostic tests on them.

When Norb passed away, Sue and Bob started the Norb Wambold Memorial Scholarship in his memory. The scholarship is awarded to a student with junior or senior status who is enrolled full-time, with a preference given to students with a concentration in human performance and fitness promotion.

In honor of Sue’s retirement from The University of Toledo, please consider a gift to the Norb Wambold Memorial Scholarship. Your generous support will enable students to benefit from this fund for many years to come.

Thank you for helping to celebrate Sue as we honor her meaningful contributions to The University of Toledo.
