About

June 2nd is One Pike Day, and we are going All In!

We are All In on Home Based Learning, All In on strong, healthy families,  and All In on a vibrant and diverse community.

That's why One Pike Day is the day to go All In with Pike!

And there are a lot of ways to go All In:

  • Be part of our giant One Pike Day word cloud! Tell us what Pike means to you - in just one word - and then check back at 6pm when we unveil the word cloud our entire Pike community created together.
  • Create a video message to thank a faculty or staff member, and post it to your social media using the One Pike Day hashtags #allinforPike and #OnePikeDay, or share with us here
  • Share a smile with a graduating 8th or 9th grader on our Pike School Smile Wall below, generously sponsored by our friends at Bento.
  • Show our strength! Raise your voice in support of what matters most to you about Pike in this challenging time, using our One Pike Day hashtags (#allinforPike, #OnePikeDay) or share with us here
  • Give a gift to the Pike Fund. We know that many of you are facing a very different financial situation than you were just three months ago. We also know donor support has never been more important. If you are able, please give. You can designate your gift to areas that matter RIGHT NOW, and our generous sponsors will help your dollars have even more impact!

However you go All In, we know you will feel the power of our community.

Because we are strongest when we are united, and we are All In This Together!

Updates
Thank you for going All In with us on One Pike Day!

Dear Pike Community,

One Pike Day was a day like no other. After pausing the day to make space for and to recognize the moment we are in, we moved forward on June 3rd with a day focused on our Pike community.

And you, our community, went All In. We saw smiling faces, engaging updates, a dizzying number of celebratory cartwheels, two pies, 15 (no, 16!) water balloons, 318 gifts, and over $100,000 raised. As the infographic below makes clear,  One Pike Day was a community success.

One couldn't help but notice our community's presence and involvement in the day. From photos and videos, shared words and values, gifts and challenges, our Pike community powered the day in so many ways.  Thank YOU for making One Pike Day a success.

An annual day of community and giving has become a tradition at Pike. Here's to the continuation of our many other great end-of-year traditions.  Their forms may have changed, but their importance hasn't.

With gratitude,

John "Muddy" Waters
Head of School

Today was amazing!

Dear Pike Community,

After hitting pause on One Pike Day yesterday, and extending our efforts into a second day today, I wasn’t quite sure how things would go.

I should have known that all of you would go All In!

All In on Spirit - with logo filled Zoom calls, cartwheels and water balloons.

All In on Community - with students reading in front of the building, and word clouds created by all of you.

All In on Giving - with an amazing 287 gifts to support our school today, and into the future.

And, of course, All In on pie!

Today was truly a day when we were All In This Together, and I was so proud to be All In with all of you.

With Gratitude,

John "Muddy" Waters

Head of School

One Pike Day Word Cloud

Learning.

Community.

Diversity.

Joy.

These are just a few of the words you, our Pike community, submitted to create our first ever Community Word Cloud.

In answering the question "What does Pike mean to you?" you showed what makes Pike special, to each of you. You showed why Pike is the place you trust to educate your children, why is it the school that shaped the person you are today, why it holds a special place in your heart and memory. And you helped unlock a generous $2,000 donation to the school.

In short, you showed why each of you has gone All In for Pike today.

So thank you, for sharing your words with us and creating this wonderful word cloud!

Build Pike Spirit, with just one word!

To celebrate One Pike Day, we are creating a community word cloud - and we need your help! We want every member of our Pike community - students, current parents, past parents, alums, grandparents and friends - to tell us what Pike means to them… in just one word.

So, what’s your word? Is it Community? Is it Joy? Is it Learning?

Whatever it is, take a moment to share your word with us, and help unlock a $2,000 gift to Pike! You read that right - $2,000!

An anonymous Pike donor has promised $2,000 if we can get 100 words for our One Pike Day word cloud.

So take a moment, think about what The Pike School means to YOU, and then submit your word here! Then, keep an eye out at 6:00 pm when we will unveil our One Pike Day word cloud!

A much loved Pike tradition continues!

All through the year, First Graders at Pike work hard on their reading skills in anticipation of one of The Pike School’s most treasured traditions… Read to Mr. Waters! Imagine how important it feels as a first grader to get your very own chance to sit with the Head of School and read him a book! Honestly, the only person who loves this tradition more than the first graders is Mr. Waters himself!

So the First Grade teachers knew they had to find a way to make Read to Mr. Waters happen, even while our campus is closed. And today, they did it! One at time, students and their families are pulling up, and excited readers are hopping out with their books, ready for this beloved tradition - taking place on the front plaza of Pike school, in chairs decorated with balloons and spaced a very safe distance apart.

The careful care and attention the faculty and staff took to make sure this important day could happen for our young readers (and our not-so-young Head of School) exemplifies the kind of school that Pike is. A place where traditions matter, but we are not afraid to adjust and adapt them to work in today’s world. It is fitting that Read to Mr. Waters is happening in the second part of One Pike Day, because it highlights the strength of our community, and how strong we are when we are All In This Together.

Pike Middle Schoolers show the meaning of our motto

One of the most special things about Pike is our motto - Non Sibi Solum. At Pike we live our motto every day, even when we are not in school together! Yesterday we asked students in grades 3, 4, and 5 to share what Not for Oneself Alone means to them - in just one word. Their responses were quite inspiring!

Now it's YOUR turn! Click here to be part of our giant One Pike Day word cloud! Tell us what Pike means to you - in just one word - and then check back at 6pm when we unveil the word cloud that our entire Pike community created together.

Yesterday, our sponsor Bento Dental went ALL IN, and had a big impact on One Pike Day. They generously donated $100 for our first 50 gifts - proving that we are stronger when we're together!

They're also the sponsor for our Pike Smile Wall, where you can leave a Smile for our graduating 8th and 9th graders.

We're so grateful to have Bento as our dental insurance provider at Pike, and as a sponsor for One Pike Day!

One Pike Day Continues

Dear Pike Community,

Yesterday was amazing, both solemn and hopeful.  Our faculty gathered with the Administrative Team to begin to share each other's perspectives, thoughts, and emotions around the state of our nation today - a process that will continue this week and well beyond.  We honored the social media blackout calling for an end to racism and injustice.  At the same time, our community whole-heartedly jumped in (over 140 gifts, both large and small!) to provide a tremendous start to One Pike Day, which we extended into a second day.

Today, we will share our spirit and connection as a community, with joy and enthusiasm.  Pike’s mission to prepare students to be responsible citizens, with a love of learning and respect for others, has never been more important. It is because of that mission that we are energized to be All In for Pike today, and that we are grateful to have all of you with us.

Here’s to Pike -- our community and our mission!  Happy Second One Pike Day!

Sincerely,

John “Muddy” Waters
Head of School

Special message from Head of School, Muddy Waters

Dear Pike Community,

Today was not the One Pike Day we initially had planned. Nonetheless, I am closing the day with an uplifting sense of gratitude for and pride in our community. Yes, we put the bulk of our One Pike Day actions on hold until tomorrow in order to recognize the social media protest of systemic racism and injustice.  Still, our community came together – through giving, connection, and spirit.

I look forward to sharing tomorrow many of the photos and videos we received that highlight the joy in our community and the bonds that we share. And, I offer my sincere thanks for the donors who made commitments to our school today in order to grow that joy and strengthen those bonds.

Our efforts tomorrow will reflect our commitment to community, and the real impact of donor support in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, while continuing to recognize the realities in our nation that were highlighted today.

So please expect more enthusiasm, joy, compelling challenges from sponsors, and (as promised) a pie tomorrow at pikeschool.org/onepike, as we go All In for Pike.  I hope you will join as you are able.

Sincerely,

John "Muddy" Waters
Head of School

Important Decisions about One Pike Day

Dear Pike Community,

We're All In This Together. That's what you've been hearing from Pike in anticipation of One Pike Day. And we are All In today, but we are also mindful of the protests, strife and unrest in our nation.

Therefore, we have made a few important decisions about One Pike Day.

In solidarity with the national movement to observe a day of social media silence to protest systemic racism and injustice, The Pike School will not be posting any One Pike Day content on social media. The content we had planned was enthusiastic, joyful and celebratory. On social media, today is not that day.

We will be extending One Pike Day through tomorrow, June 3, because The Pike School is a place of enthusiasm and joy, and our intention to celebrate our community is unchanged. You can expect the cartwheels, the smiling faces, and maybe even a pie... tomorrow.

In the meantime, One Pike Day will continue quietly today. We are grateful to those who have gone All In already today - who have submitted a word to our word cloud, sent pictures of students in Pike gear, and given generously to the Pike Fund. We hope those activities will continue today. And we look forward to going All In on celebrating them all with you tomorrow.

One Pike Day is Almost Here!

Tomorrow, June 2, is One Pike Day. Because it comes in challenging times, we are planning a day of connection and spirit. A day to model coming together in support of our shared values.  A day to celebrate our power and promise as a learning community, one that can make a difference for our children. In short, a day for us all to go All In for Pike.

On One Pike Day we encourage you to:

  • Show your school spirit by wearing Pike gear
  • Make a connection with Pike friends, families and alums
  • Share what Pike means to you in our giant word cloud
  • Raise your voice in support of what matters most in videos and photos
  • Support our school with a gift if you are able

Tomorrow, our community will go All In, and we invite YOU to join us. Because we are stronger when we are united, and we are All In This Together.
