Vincentian Full Circle Initiative

This campaign ended on April 30, 2017, but you can still make a gift to St. John's University by clicking here!

It has become a tradition that each graduating VMC cohort works together towards supporting a Vincentian-based project through a fundraising initiative. This year, our VMC group has selected a somewhat unique project to focus on – one that builds on the VMC traditions and legacy of fundraising and support started with previous cohorts, and yet adds a personal “VMC 9” touch. Our Project consists of VMC9 committing to the following:

·        To Prepare a Donation to Bethany House

·        To Serve at the 2nd Annual Vincentian Mission Certificate Service Day

·        To Continue a Legacy by donating a Brick to Ronald McDonald House

Bethany House is a non-profit service site, which provides safe, supportive, emergency housing for women and their dependent children, along with a comprehensive range of additional programs and services. Over these past 16 months, VMC volunteers have hosted a Mardi Gras party, a Halloween “spookfest”, arts and crafts projects for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and…in the warmer months…time to just play together outdoors. Beyond these activities, though, it was clear to so many of us that Bethany House is more than “emergency housing”...it was a home full of love and support for mothers and their dependent children. It also became clear that the items in the home were treated with great care – another symbol of the dignity and respect that is so much a part of the mission of Bethany House.

Funding from this campaign will go to support Bethany House.

This year, in addition to the eight service sites offered for the VMC Day of Service day, we will add a ninth – a day trip to Germantown, PA to serve at some of the Vincentian sites there. Along with a visit to the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal, a main focus that we will plan for this trip will be visiting the Vincentian priests who are currently at St. Catherine’s Infirmary, including our very own Fr. Joseph Daly, who worked at St. John’s for many years. The idea is that our Vincentian story – and support of those Vincentians who have supported all of us – will come “full circle.”

Funding from this campaign will go to support the Germantown component of the VMC Day of Service, including serving at St. Catherine’s Infirmary.

Finally, the last part of our graduation donation will be a small fundraising campaign in support of the Ronald McDonald House, a “home away from home” for parents and siblings of seriously ill children being treated at children’s hospitals in the area. VMC 9 volunteers cooked up homemade brunches and dinners for the residents to help – in some small way – lighten their burden while they are caring for their child. With a goal of $200, the VMC 9 cohort will purchase a brick in the sidewalk outside of the facility to remind all those entering the building of the ongoing prayers and support from the VMC program at St. John’s.

Please donate as much as you can.
