About

Welcome to Ten Transformational Days for St. Andrew's!

In the lead up to our annual Day of Giving on June 9, we'll be spending the next ten days celebrating 90 years of St. Andrew's history, from its origins as a single building in a sea of Delaware cornfields, and grown from one man's vision through the work of generations of individuals into the school we know and love today.

For 90 years St. Andrew's has transformed lives and made us a family of Saints—and each one of you is an integral part of St. Andrew's story. We're excited to spend the next ten days celebrating the transformational power that one mentor, one moment, one gift can have on an individual, a Class, a community.

Ninety years. Ten days. The power of one.

How can you get involved?

If you haven't made your gift to the Saints Fund this year, now is the time! All Saints Fund gifts made during the Ten Transformational Days will count toward our Day of Giving goal on June 9.

If you have already made your Saints Fund gift this year, you can still get involved in the following ways:

  • Sign up to be an advocate—click on the "Advocates" tab above to get started. While logged into your advocate account, you can use the Facebook, Twitter, text, and email buttons to help spread the word. Check back on your Advocates tab to see how many clicks, dollars, and donors you've generated for SAS.
  • Participate in upcoming games and challenges! Watch your inbox and social media for details.
  • In celebration of our 90th year of education, we're making a list of ninety things to love about St. Andrew's. We hope to have at least one contribution from every Class year with living alumni! Tell us what you love best about St. Andrew's here.
  • And, if you feel moved to do so, you can of course make another gift to the Saints Fund during the Ten Transformational Days.

Not sure if you've made a gift yet this year? Click here to find out.

Updates
Almost to Our Goal!

A huge thank you to the many Saints who participated in our 24 hour giving challenge! As of Friday morning, we are so close (95%!!) to our Day of Giving goal of 900 gifts—10 gifts for each of St. Andrew's 90 years. We're still tallying gifts that came in via mail and offline over the last 24 hours, and we'll send you an update when we know our final total. Thank you again for your ongoing and inspiring support of St. Andrew's!

Day 9 - It's Giving Day!

Beginning at noon today, we challenge YOU, our alumni, parents, and friends, to show us what St. Andrew's means to you. Make your annual gift to the Saints Fund now, and help us reach our goal of 900 Saints Fund gifts in 24 hours—ten gifts for each of St. Andrew's ninety years. Any gift of any size will help St. Andrew's reach this goal. And, when you make your gift, tell us what YOU love best about SAS.

Get Involved in the Competition!

There are lots of fun matching gifts and gift challenges being offered by your fellow St. Andreans today. Can you participate in any of the following?

Just for Classes between 1957 & 1961...

Andy will give $200 for each Class Agent gift made on Giving Day, and encourages each Class Agent to make a gift they are proud of. Andy will give up to $10,000 for this challenge—make him use it all!

Day 8 — This Place...

“I have an emotional tie to the buildings. Those classrooms where I studied; the library where I whispered; and those gully stairs I climbed an infinite number of times running late to dinner after a long crew practice… I remember the tiled floors, the slate roofs, the small window panes, the smell of the varnish, the texture of the wood in the stair railings.”

-Anonymous Alumnus

What makes St. Andrew’s, St. Andrew’s? We all know it’s our people that make our school so great… but the place doesn’t hurt, either! The pond and cornfields, the slate walkways and big trees, the Chapel and the Dining Hall—there are so many magical places in our 2200 acres, from the small to the large, that St. Andreans hold close to their hearts. What’s a place you love on campus? Make a gift in honor of your favorite space—and the staff who work so hard to keep our campus beautiful seven days a week—today.

Day 7 - Game Day!

Whether you were an artist or an athlete (or both) during your time at SAS—whether you were in the audience giving a standing ovation, or screaming and cheering from the stands—If you’re a St. Andrean, you know one thing for sure: Saints show up for one another. Our community loves to demonstrate our support for our artists and athletes. For you, that might’ve looked like “packing the Hall” during an Arts Weekend, or painting your face bright red for a state tournament game; coming out for a student art show on the Garth, or hollering for the varsity eight from the grass docks.

Today is “Game Day.” First, engage in some friendly competition with your fellow Saints—click here to try your hand at SAS arts & athletics trivia. Top scorers will be entered into a raffle for some SAS swag!

Second, show up for the arts and athletics at SAS by making a gift to the Saints Fund today, in honor of your favorite St. Andrew’s coach, athlete, arts faculty, or artist!

Day 6 - Honoring Our Faculty & Staff

Today, we lift up St. Andrew’s faculty and staff—the people that keep St. Andrew’s running, and make a lifelong impact in the lives of our students. Who was the teacher or staff member that made an impact on you during your time at SAS? Here are a few different ways you can take a moment to honor them today:

  1. Make a gift in honor of any member of the faculty or staff who made a difference in your life!
  2. This past January 31 would have been the 100th birthday of legendary St. Andrew's science teacher Bill Amos. Mr. Amos had a profound impact on an entire generation of Saints—that's why we named the entire science building for him! An anonymous alumni from the Class of 1974—the last Class that Mr. Amos advised—will give $50 to the Saints Fund for every gift of any size made in honor of Mr. Amos and his 100th birthday, for the first 100 donors, by June 10.
  3. Are you a "Humanatee"? Ms. Pressman will match $5 per donor, up to $250, for former Humanities students who give in honor of Mrs. Roach between now and June 10. (Humanities—more formally know as "Advanced Study in English 4: History, Literature, and the Contested Past"—is an interdisciplinary course taught by Ms. Pressman & Mrs. Roach.) One alumni Humanatee who gives will also win the baked good of their choice from Ms. Pressman at their next Reunion! Click here to make a gift—select "Humanatee" in addition to "Alumni"and your Class year and make your gift in honor of Mrs. Roach.
  4. Share with us: what's the best advice you received from a member of the faculty or staff during your time at St. Andrew's? Click here to share, or follow St. Andrew's on Instagram to do the same!

Day 5 - We Love Our Parents!

There would be no St. Andrew's without our parents, guardians, and families. Thank you for all the sacrifices you made to send your children to St. Andrew's. Thank you for working with us each year—sometimes long after your children graduate—to make St. Andrew's the best school it can be. Thank you, above all, for being a part of our family.

If you feel so moved, make a gift to the Saints Fund today in honor of your child's St. Andrew's experience. Current parents, you have the chance to make history this year. We have never reached 90% participation in parent giving to the Saints Fund, but this year feels like the year… in celebration of St. Andrew’s 90th year, let’s reach 90%! Parents in the Form with the highest giving percentage on June 10 will receive some SAS swag in the mail!

Day 4 — Celebrating Coeducation

Today we celebrate coeducation at St. Andrew’s! Forty-eight years ago, in the fall of 1973, 26 “First Girls” joined 155 boys in the classrooms of St. Andrew’s—all taught by 24 men and six women. Today, our student and faculty bodies are equally balanced across gender, and are inclusive of all gender identifications.

In gratitude for the transformational power of co-education—and in honor of Women’s Network founder Elizabeth Roach and her forty years of work for gender equality at St. Andrew’s—Gay Browne ’78 and Kellie Doucette ’88 P’18,’18,’21 will give $40,000 to the Saints Fund if 400 donors make a gift by June 10!

Day 3 - It's Ethos Day!

It’s Ethos Day! (Because you can’t have “EThos” without T & E!)

Today we celebrate Head of School Tad Roach, Dean of Teaching & Learning Elizabeth Roach, and their truly transformational forty-plus years of service to the school. Here are three ways you can celebrate T&E today:

1) Join us for tonight’s Tribute to Tad & Elizabeth on Zoom—register here! Event begins at 8 PM ET. Hosted by their lifelong friend and colleague Will Speers P’07,’09,’13, this Zoom webinar will feature many voices from across the Roaches’ 42 years at St. Andrew’s.

2) In gratitude for Tad and Elizabeth's many gifts to St. Andrew’s, a group of 1980s alums who work in public service, spearheaded by Gail Wright ‘84, will give $10,000 to the Saints Fund if 100 donors make a gift by June 10. Make a gift above in honor of Tad & Elizabeth!

3) Find out whether YOU are a Tad or an Elizabeth. Click here to take the Buzzfeed quiz!

“Tad and Elizabeth have consistently said that the ‘only way’ they want to be honored is through gifts to further enhance financial aid, so that the opportunities for recruiting a diverse student body may be amplified. Particularly in this year that has magnified systemic disparities in education, law, and healthcare—when gaps of access and understanding have become chasms—it seems fitting to honor them and their decades of work for education and justice in this manner. Regardless of whether your gift is $8, $80, $8K, or more, we hope that you will join us at a level of community participation that will touch them as deeply as they have touched us.  Contribute at whatever level makes your heart joyful, here, and please make a dedication to “in celebration of Tad and Elizabeth.”

Day 2 — Join the Ev McNair ’73 Challenge!

Three Black men enrolled at St. Andrew’s for the first time in the fall of 1966. Half a century later, 40% of our student body are students of color. In recognition of all St. Andreans—and especially Tad and Elizabeth—who have championed both diversity and belonging at St. Andrew’s, and who continue to work to bring our school together as an authentically inclusive and cohesive community, Ev McNair ‘73 is matching $50 per donor up to $5,000 between now and June 10. Is there still work to do in the fight for equity, inclusion, and belonging at SAS? Yes! Support that work by making a gift today. Only the next 100 donors will be matched!
