The Choose Your Southwestern Challenge is back! This is your opportunity to make a unique impact on Southwestern by donating to one of our featured projects or any area on campus that is meaningful to you. This year's featured projects are:
Kain Challenge (COMPLETED!) - Professor Emeritus Dr. Ed Kain has challenged the Southwestern community to raise $5,000 for endowed funds at SU. Dr. Kain will match 1:1 for every dollar to a named endowment fund at Southwestern, and 2:1 for every dollar given to the Dan Hilliard Scholarship, the Edward L. Kain Scholarship, the Edward L. Kain Collaborative Research Fund or the Gwen Kennedy Neville Fund.
Spring Breakaway Travel Funds - Over Spring Break, Southwestern students will be traveling to Houston, New Orleans, and Oakland, CA to learn more about social justice issues and to reflect on these issues in the Georgetown area. Your donations to Spring Breakaway will help offset this year's travel costs and also allow for future trips of greater distance to help students expand their horizons.
SIRA - Many students take advantage of the outdoors gear that SIRA offers free of charge, and that is shown in the wear and tear of those items. Your support will help the SIRA office replace all of their sleeping bags! SIRA is also looking to raise money for new intramural scorekeeping equipment and a new equipment storage shed.
Spiritual and Religious Life - Helping develop students in mind, body and spirit, the Office of Spiritual & Religious Life is seeking support for the following programs: Open Table, a Sunday evening Christian worship service; Clarify, a faith-based approach to career exploration; and Yoga Flow, a free weekly yoga class open to all students, faculty and staff.
Science Internships - An internship not only provides vital professional experience, but it also helps students determine what path they want to take after graduation and gives them a place to reflect on their education to that point. Dr. Nick Cox '11 understands this impact and has offered a matching gift of $3,000 for donations to support science internships and other high-impact experiences, including research through the SCOPE program.
Lab for Innovative Ventures and Entrepreneurship (LIVE) The Business & Economics Department is piloting a new program, and you can provide the start-up funds for it to succeed! LIVE is an interdisciplinary program meant to help students take their ideas from concept to business plan.
Fine Arts Initiatives - The Sarofim School of Fine Arts offers a world-class arts education to Southwestern students, and your gift helps further that mission by supporting the School's core functions. Whether or not they're majoring in Fine Arts, all students benefit from programming through participation and attendance. Your gift to Fine Arts Initiatives helps make sure the show goes on!
