LEAVE YOUR MARK!
Join us for Shepherd Universityโs second annual Day of Giving on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Our Ram family asks alumni, parents, friends, faculty, and staff to give back to Shepherd over a 24-hour period, with the goal of โunlockingโ a series of challenges.
Gifts made during this Day of Giving support everything that makes Shepherd unique: from the Shepherd Fund, which provides vital financial support for virtually every aspect of the Shepherd University experience, to helping a specific department and organization close to your heart.
As we reach milestones throughout the day, the school will unlock a series of gifts from dedicated alumni and community Challenge Gift Donors. For example, when we reach 50 donors, the first $1,000 Challenge Gift is unlocked, and it grows from there:
- 100 donors = $2,500 is unlocked
- 150 donors = $3,500 is unlocked
- 200 donors = $5,000 is unlocked
And there are a few other challenges on tap:
- Be one of 25 new Shepherd alumni donors between noon and 5 pm on March 25th and help unlock $500 for The Shepherd Fund.
- Put your club or organization at the top of the GiveCampus leaderboard and earn a prize. The group with the most gifts will earn $250, and numbers 2, 3, and 4 will earn $100 each. All thanks to an anonymous donor.
See how every gift counts — no matter the size! All will help us reach the overall one-day goal of 200 gifts!
Will you join us? Can you be one of the 200? Even better, amplify the message and share this campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Remember to #RamsGive21 on March 25.
Become an Advocate
Want to increase your โmarkโ on Shepherd? Follow these four simple steps and become a #RamsGive21 Advocate through GiveCampus. This social fundraising platform allows you to create a profile and track your impact through the course of the campaign.
Hereโs how:
- Go to the "Advocates" tab at the of this page.
- Create an account either by linking to your Facebook account or your email. Already an advocate? No need to create a new account; just sign on from last year.
- Once youโve logged in, go to the Day of Giving 2021 campaign page and use the GiveCampus buttons to share the campaign link in a tweet, text, or email.
- Come back to GiveCampus throughout the day to see how your friends, family, and others are responding to your messages. Youโll be able to view the number of clicks on your posts, the number of donors and the overall dollars generated from your messages.
Boost Your Advocacy: Create a Matching Gift or Gift Challenge
Motivate your friends and family to give to a program at Shepherd you feel passionate about.
Hereโs how:
- Go to the Day of Giving 2021 campaign page and click on the โoffer a matching giftโ or โoffer a challengeโ button on the left side of the screen below the campaign video.
- Matching gifts are made on a per donor or per dollar basis. For example, tell everyone you will match up to $50 on a dollar-for-dollar basis for the next $50 that is donated to XYZ program.
- Gift challenges are milestone-based; if 25 people make a donation, you will give $50 to XYZ program.
- Pro Tip: Keep your matches and challenges simple and attainable!
- This is where the boost comes in. Share these matches or challenges with your friends and family. This helps us unlock the overall challenges, while also helping the program you want to support.

Shepherd University's Day of Giving 2021 was a huge success, thanks to almost 400 donors who came together to "Leave Their Mark" and show support for everything that makes Shepherd unique.
We are still receiving mailed-in donations, so watch for final results next week. As it stands this morning, we are at 395 donors and gifts totaling nearly $80,000. This is a 30 percent increase over last year.

Dear Ram Nation,
The funding generated through our annual "Day of Giving" campaign is paramount to enhancing the Shepherd University Athletic Clubโs constant mission of supporting all our menโs and womenโs athletic programs.
Although this past year has been tough for our communities, both on and off campus, now is when the support and participation of Ram Nation is needed most. Spring competition has begun, and athletic events are now taking place across the conference, signaling a return of some normalcy to our campus. With that positivity and excitement comes a renewed desire from each and every one of our athletic programs to achieve the successes and goals that they have long set out to achieve. While many of those goals are achieved through on-field wins or excellence in the classroom, some of them require the assistance of Ram Nation to secure a positive result. We know that, with your backing, anything is possible.
Today is an exciting day for our campus and for our student-athletes, and last yearโs achievement showed us that Ram Nation is set and ready to leave their mark on this campus. With your help and participation, I know this yearโs campaign will be even more successful than last year. Thank you for enriching the lives of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff members through your involvement on this important day.
Go Rams!

427 days ago by Christine MeyerRay Alvarez โ62 remembers his freshman year at Shepherd. His family was dealing with his mother's terminal illness and the resulting mounting debt. The money wasnโt there for his tuition and he was contemplating leaving school to seek full-time employment to support his family.
He explained his circumstances to his faculty advisor, and that was a meeting that changed his life. Ray was able to secure an Alumni Association gift that enabled him to complete the tuition payments and stay in school.
Jump forward to 2017 when Shepherd, with Rayโs guidance, created the Last Dollar Fund. This is a way to help undergraduate students who are in good academic standing but experiencing financial challenges get help to clear their semester bill.
Ray and Mary Alvarez continue to โpay it forwardโ to help students who are in similar circumstances today. They are challenging others to donate to the Last Dollar Fund, and will match the first $1,000 in donations with a $1,000 gift.
Will you join them to help these students?
