About

Each year, SYA relies upon the generosity of alumni, parents and friends to enhance the experience. Educational travel experiences, fieldwork, extracurriculars, faculty and host families are just snapshots into a year of life-changing adventures for our students made possible through your SYA Fund support.

When you give, you inspire passions, foster independence and create lasting memories that will resonate far beyond a year abroad.

The 2023-2024 SYA Fund closes on June 30.

Will you make a gift to support the SYA experience?

📸 SYA Snapshots: Educational Travel

In Rennes, you are preparing for an upcoming trip to Paris and have been tasked with researching the history of the Arc de Triomphe. A few weeks later, you are able to climb the 284 stairs to the top and present your historical research in situ to the rest of the class entirely in French before enjoying a bit of free time on the Champs Élysées.

Imagine sitting in a classroom in Viterbo. You are learning about the identity of different regions of Italy through food and what makes specific things available in those places. Fast forward to your class trip to Naples where you are able to try try two regional specialties — la frittatina and pizza napoletana — and speak to locals to get additional information about these foods.

You are in Art History class in Zaragoza learning about different types of architecture through Spain’s history, such as vidrieras (stained-glass windows), arcos apuntados (pointed arches), bóvedas de crucería (ribbed vaults) and contrafuertes (buttresses). During a class trip to Andalucía, you are able to apply what you learned in class to the real world, seeing architectural features on buildings and monuments throughout your travels.
