"This is where I want my daughter to graduate" were the first words Tina Amaechi's father shared as they toured Samford University together. As a parent, you likely remember feeling the same way for your student.
Tina enrolled in the Moffett and Sanders School of Nursing. Recently moved to the U.S. from Nigeria, she would be the first college graduate in her family. While at Samford, her father passed away. In her time of uncertainty, Samford parents renewed her faith. Through donations made to the Samford Parents Scholarship, Tina’s financial burden was relieved, and she concentrated on the rigorous program ahead of her. She graduated and is living her dream as an oncology nurse to honor her father after his battle with cancer.
“My sons ask me to ‘check my heart rate, check it, you’re a nurse,’” she said. “They are proud of me and want me to check their pulse and hearts all the time.”
Much as Tina’s sons ask for their mother to check their heart rates, parents are encouraged to “check their own hearts, and then check the box" to make a gift to support the Parents Scholarship fund allows Samford the ability to help students who face unexpected financial hardship.
There are many more stories just like Tina’s and that is why Samford parents are invited to participate in the Samford Parent Campaign. Thank you for being a parent that not only looks out for the needs of your own child, but considers Samford's students "sons and daughters of the heart".
