Honoring Dr. Jim East

This campaign ended on April 29, 2017, but you can still make a gift to Salem Academy by clicking here!

Dear friends,

For many of us, our experience at Salem Academy was deeply (and

humorously) enriched by our “Mr. East.” From leading and inspiring

the first state championship tennis team in the Academy’s history, to

giving some of us a grade of “G” on our first English papers, he had

high expectations of us and made a permanent impression in our

lives. We all remember how he told us daily to “go forth and do great

things!”

As you may know, Salem recently dedicated the Bert Lain Tennis

Center. Thanks to generous donations through Salem's Women of

Purpose campaign, the renovation of the tennis center was

completed earlier this summer. The facility features twelve new tennis

courts with state-of- the-art surfacing, new aluminum bleachers,

benches, hydration stations, vinyl-coated fencing, and a crosswalk

with two entry gateways. Academy student-athletes have already

made great use of the new courts. In October the Salem Academy

tennis team was recognized for their undefeated season and win as

Triad Athletic Conference Champions!

We have decided to come together to name one of the two entry

gateways in honor of Dr. East. We have a matching donor to

challenge and help us meet the $100,000 goal, so our task for this

project is to raise a minimum of $50,000 but if we raise $100,000

the Academy benefits doubly! We plan to have a champagne

gathering, hopefully followed by a cocktail buffet and maybe even

hitting a few tennis balls, during reunion weekend in the spring to

celebrate this effort and unveil the plaque recognizing Dr. East's

dedication to Salem Academy. We would truly like to overwhelm him

with the number of participants in this effort, so please forward this to

anyone (even parents of alums) who would like to be listed as a

donor. No donation is too small (or too large) as we would like for

everyone to honor him in whatever way possible.

Please consider making your tax-deductible donation today. Salem

has created an easy way for alumnae to support this project. To

make a gift or pledge, please use the pledge and gift form on this

page. If you prefer to mail a check, please make it payable to Salem

Academy, note 'Dr. East Gateway' in the memo line and mail to:

Many thanks for all you do for Salem!
